The AATC says it is the third major Australian tourism industry to release the guide, following the Travel Australia and the Australian Institute of Travel Information.
The guide will include all the information available in the ATD’s online travel information service and a guide to where to find travel information.
The Guide to Travel information is being released as part of a wider campaign by the ATC, which is working with travel agencies to help people plan and secure their holiday travel.
“Over the past few years, there has been an increase in the number of Australians planning and booking their holidays around Christmas,” ATD chairman Steve Gull said.
“Travel information sites have been a key way Australians can share information and plan their travel.”
Travel agencies are keen to encourage people to use their sites to get the best deals.
“The sites offer great travel information and are great to look at when travelling,” travel agent Peter Beagle said.”[But] the reality is the site is very limited.
The websites aren’t updated often enough.”
While the site doesn’t provide a definitive list of the sites offering the best prices, some sites have started offering discounted travel.
For example, the travel site TripAdvisor.com has a number to help users find their way around the Australian holiday markets, while Hotels.com is offering a deal on hotel deals.
The website for the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) has been revamped to include travel information on its website, while other travel information providers such as Travelocity, TripAdvisories.com and Traveller.com have also launched sites for travellers to check prices.
